Understanding the Basics of Audio Compression
Compression is that one tool you must have in the recording studio. Compressors come in all shapes, sizes and colors – whether hardware or plug-in. When used correctly, compression basically keeps volume levels in perspective. It organizes the noize, so to speak. Compressors have several bells and whistles that one can easily become intimidated by. The key is first studying the process and using your ears to understand the result you’re after.

Hi.
I noticed that in this video the narrator explanes compression ratio wrongly at 02:55. The 3:1 ratio on a compressor does not work the way the narrator speaks of. 3:1 ratio means that for every 3db in there’s an 1db out. (after thereshold).
But other than that – it’s allright basic compression video.
