I’m more impressed by his sampling ability as opposed to his rhymes; however, he is a dual force to be reckoned with. I searched for a bio and couldn’t find one specifically, however, I did learn that he enjoys rapping and producing and is known as “Felly” for his raps and “Rob Fel” for his tracks. He’s highly active at his You Tube channel and also sells his instrumentals. Rob Fel lives in Trumbull, Connecticut. Check out the video below to see how Rob Fel gets busy on the MPD32.

eq 1 The Misunderstanding of The Role of a Music Producer

I’ve heard and have read numerous times where some people think because a music producer does not play an instrument or physically tap out a track on a MIDI keyboard or drum machine, that this makes them not a producer. Wrong!

Although some music producers may not always physically play, they simply hire professionals to do it for them. Some music producers are often very familiar with music composition, arrangement and the use of various types of instruments. They are savvy about the music business in hiring and paying union wages to musicians and conducting the necessary paperwork for production, clearances, studio scheduling, etc. A good music producer has a great ear and understand the elements of pulling the masterpiece together. The project becomes their new-born and they nurture it through its infancy to platinum/gold plaques on the wall.

There’s a certain level of development and education in the music-making process, (and I’m not talking just classroom). I’m talking exposure and experience. Music production is more than just a room of equipment. It’s more than a rhythm track followed by an ego. It’s a process, a discipline, and an effort of understanding the full spectrum of the studio environment, the music business, and more importantly, the art of working with artists in bringing out their best where they compliment the music and vice versa.

So in essence, music producers vary, yet with one common goal; and that is to bring fruition to a project that was once an idea, whether they physically play the notes or not!

Kevbrownbw Kev Brown Studio Noize Featured ArtistWhen I came across the flavorful and lyrical style of Kev Brown alongside his beefy production skills, it was evident this emcee was Featured Noize. He’s cooking the whole meal with tasty rhythmic soul-fuzed concoctions of head-bobbing Hip-Hop. It’s obvious he has the recipe, and as long as he’s cooking, I’m enjoying being served and you will too.

Hailing from Landover, MD, Kev Brown has ascended the ranks of the underground to solidify himself as one of hip-hop’s most prolific and universally respected modern producers. As the beat-maker for artists from De La Soul to Jewel—and the mastermind behind ground-breaking projects such as the Jay-Z remix “Brown Album”—Kev has received worldwide acclaim for his range, creativity, and soul-infused rhythms.

Kev’s prior full-length release, the 47-track Kev Brown Mixtape, also received strong acclaim, and the producer/MC recently introduced underground phenoms Kaimbr and the Isaac Jones duo with his T.D. Harry Music Group 12” single “Kev Brown Presents…” featuring the tracks ‘Albany,’ ‘Changes,’ and ‘Look.’ Brown was selected as one of URB Magazine’s ‘Next 100’ in 2004, and the producer’s work has been featured on Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show. While the Kev Brown sound is heavily influenced by the works of famed producers Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and the RZA, it also reflects inspiration from lesser-known funk, jazz, and R&B musicians.

Brown’s breakthrough came in 2001 when Pete Rock played Marley Marl the Kev Brown/Grap Luva collaboration “What Ruling Means.” Marley Marl was in the process of compiling his installment of the BBE Beat Generation series, and he included the song on his Re Entry album. 2001 also found Kev contributing the standout track “Special” to the second installment of De La Soul’s AOI series, AOI: Bionix.

Kev made his sophomore appearances on the BBE Beat Generation series with the release of DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Magnificent EP, on which Kev produced two songs. He also contributed to the full length LP, producing seven tracks including “Scram” (Freddie Foxxx), “How I Do” (Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men and Cy Young), and Travelz” (Baby Blak).

Versatility

Other recent Kev Brown releases include the 12” single “Allways,” (ABB Records/A Touch of Jazz) where Brown doubles as producer and MC. The B-side contains “Can’t Stay Away”, featuring Grap Luva and Little Brother’s Phonte, along with the 9th Wonder remix of “Allways.” Kev also produced a 12″ single on Up Above Records (“Nitefall”, featuring Cy Young and Oddisee), two tracks (“Games” and “Get Down”) on Biz Markie’s Groove Attack album, and “Catch 22″ on Raheem De Vaughn’s Jive Records debut titled The Love Experience.

In September 2005, Kev released his debut full-length album “I Do What I Do,” which was received with immediate and universal praise (see ‘Press’ section). The album features a number of guest appearances and displays Kev at his most talented and raw.

After numerous productions and collaborations with artists throughout 2003 and 2004, Brown made his debut in 2005 with “I Do What I Do” through the independent Up Above imprint. The single, “Life’s A Gamble”, followed in early 2006. Although there was talk of Brown releasing a follow-up EP called Random Joints, this release did not see the light of day. Brown remained quiet for most of 2007, returning in February 2008 with Selective Hearing: The Beat Tape, a full-length collaboration with rapper LMNO of The Visionaries. Brown is one of the producers working with legendary New York rapper Busta Rhymes for B.O.M.B., the MC’s eighth studio album.

In August 2008, a track leaked on the internet call “Packin’ Them Things” produced by Kev Brown, however there’s no word on whether this track will appear on the album. Kev Brown is also the founding member of the Low Budget Crew, which is a collective of Hip hop musicians based in the Washington D.C. area. The crew formed around the early 2000s and released several 12″s including Critically Acclaimed’s “Flashback”, and Kev Brown’s “Nightfall” and Dj RoddyRod’s “BluntPark Sessions” LB Crew members are: Critically Acclaimed (Quartermaine and C.A.L.I.B.E.R.), Cy Young, I.Q. , Kaimbr, Kenn Starr, Kenwood, Kev Brown ; DJ Marshall Law, Oddisee, Peter Rosenberg, DJ Roddy Rod and Sean Born.
